Aww, what a week poor McSame had. CNN has really taken to reveling in covering his mis-steps, which is rather satisfying.

And then there was this cringe-inducing doozy, again from CNN:

What's going on this fine Friday night? Hopefully your week was a bit better...

The Media is all about a narrative (none / 0)

If CNN locks onto "McCain is a goofus", that's what their reporting will consistently reflect.

I think these are ranging shots, McOops had better be verrry careful for a few weeks.

I think both Obama and McCain (none / 0)

had tough weeks, though Obama probably comes out ahead because of the lost opportunity for McCain to start scaring people with drumming up talk about going to war with Iran.  Jackson, Obama/Clinton, Gramm, and McCain himself took that story off the headlines.

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 1)

I remember McCain in the 2000 primaries and in media appearances in 1990s when he would just state his opinion on any issue that was asked and give his reasons for that opinion. What happened?

The viagra-birth control issue doesnt require technical or economic expertise to answer. It's simple do you support womens' family planning choices, even if you dont support the privacies of their bodies when it comes to abortion, or are you in some catholic fantasyland where ever sperm is sacred?

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 3)

McCain is caught in a terrible position. He is running on platforms that I'm reasonably certain he doesn't really believe in, which is why most of the time he makes verbal miscues and contradictions. Unfortunately, he really does hold ultraconservative views on women's rights, which is why he stammers on that one instead of making stuff up or spinning off the top of his head.

Besides that, the dude's just getting older, and he doesn't really do spontaneous that much anymore. Maybe this year didn't kill him, but he was doing it all by himself all last year. That wasn't healthy. Look at Senate's page, he missed more votes than anyone else by a big margin, including the man who was critically ill for 9 months.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

More I think about it, the more I think that's true. If you stump John McCain on something easy, that's how you know you've found something that he's actually principled about that he is hiding.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

I hear Obama's a good poker player. Knows how to read people and keep count of the cards. Perhaps he could use that sort of thing in the debates. Train SUPER hard, watch for McCain's tell, then jump on it and watch his steam valve just break.

Naw (2.00 / 1)

he wasn't stammering on birth control, he was hung up on the fact that over half his supporters are on Viagra.

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 2)

"This is the same organization that I voted to condemn as a terrorist organization when an amendment was on the floor of the United States Senate. Senator Obama refused to vote."

Hey now, did anyone catch this gem?? Someone needs to check his calender because according to Senate records, he didn't, the straight talk express is missing a conductor lately.

Ha!  I love the second clip - you can catch the exact moment when the driver of the Straight Talk Express starts to consider pulling over and asking for directions.

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 1)

McCain has lost it.  He's completely lost it.   Are we running against Bob Dole here?

by Steve24 on Fri Jul 11, 2008 at 11:23:16 PM EST

As soon I knew McCain... (none / 0)

was the Republican nominee, I said he is Dole for the new millennium or Ford with anger management issues.

I'm happy! Countdown nailed McCain on Steelersgate (2.00 / 1)

I wrote two diaries at Kos pounding that bald-faced pandering lie since yesterday, and it finally got some traction.

One of the commenters there got it to the Countdown staff yesterday. We thought they would do something on it Thursday night, but I tonight is better than nothing.

Quite a name, but give Bernie a break please. He knows polls and Michigan politics.

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 2)

I think Johnny was for contraceptives before he forgot that he was really against the, Grandpa is so confused by what his positions are supposed to be now, he can't even answer the questions. He has been spoonfed some much conservative pablum that you will have to burp his ancient butt to find out what his opinion is.

That Viagara clip!

I saw reference to it in print but I just wasn't prepared for this.  Words don't do it justice - it's a complete meltdown moment.  I actually started to feel bad for the old guy.

Re: Open Thread (2.00 / 1)

I've never seen a politician pull out the fake beard like McCain did here. How do you go that far in politics without being able to think on your feet? "I certainly don't want to talk about that" is just a ludicrous thing for any politician to say -- ever. McCain seems to say it about once a week.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

The thing is, he used to be able to think on his feet like that.  He wasn't like this running against Bush eight years ago...

Nancy Reagan's "endorsement" (none / 0)

My favorite of the week was Nancy Reagan's endorsement.  Talk about damning with faint praise.  McCain couldn't wait to get the hell out of there.  Nancy looked almost completely vacant.

I nominate it for the most pathetic moment of the week for McCain.  But I concede, there are lots of good contenders.

I thought townhall meetings were supposed to be... (none / 0)

good for McAddled?

He shot himself twice in the foot, on oil "exploit" and "free" trade. So just what IS he good at?

Tony Snow apparently died this morning, in connection with his battle with cancer. I thought he was a remarkably good press secretary, and he seemed like a really decent guy.

The best line -- in the first clip --

"trying to keep a laser beam like focus on their main message"

McCain -- laser beam

The new Newsweek poll has Obama up by 3.  W.T.F???? That's it? Man he should be up big right now.

RIP Tony Snow. Just imagine if the 3 trillion we will spend on Iraq was instead spent on the fight against Cancer.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

These clips alone are beautiful raw material for a bunch of ads. McSame is losing it but why is Obama only three points, ok if you want to take the most favorable polls only six points ahead. There is something wrong here.

Re: Open Thread (none / 0)

Please explain CNN's revelling to the Evansville Courier & Press. There campagin headline:

"McCain bandwagon rolls on, despite missteps."
(That's the jist of it at least).
