Clinton Results Watch Party - Kentucky Special

Welcome
Welcome all to the Clinton Supporters Results Watch Party.

Tonight is a special night here in the Hampster tank.  Tonight we are celebrating the Kentucky Derby and the Filly who gave her all, just to collapse on the home stretch.

Tonight we toast the memory of Eight Belles a courageous horse who ran against the boys and ran hard.  They bumped her and tried to crowd her out but she kept going.  They ganged up on her and she kept going.  She never gave up, until they put her down.

To Eight Belles, a one of a kind horse.

We'll be toasting Eight Belles and our own fearless leader Hillary Rodham Clinton, not with Mint Jullips but with that elixir of the gods, Kentucky's own...

Leave your trolls in the closet, your coats on the bed in the master suite and please do enjoy yourself.

I've asked Goldberry if she can send Ricco over for a few minutes to work the bar.  He should be here about 8 EST.  I warned him not to be alone in a room with Tolstoy.

Your host, NewHampster, has some personal errands and one other party to drop in on but I'll be here now and then throughout the evening to be sure no furniture is getting broken.

And stay the hell off my exercise wheel.

Party Hearty folks and enjoy the long long night.

The Shot glasses are lined up and ready to go.

To Hillary, To Hillary, To Hillary

How low can it go (2.00 / 5)

From the exit polls:

According to the just released exit polls, only 33 percent of Clinton backers said they would vote for Obama should he be the party's nominee. That compares to 71 percent of Obama supporters who say they are willing to support Clinton if she wins the nomination.

Those numbers are even worse for Obama than in West Virginia one week ago, where 36 percent of Clinton voters said they would back Barack Obama in fall.

Re: How low can it go (2.00 / 7)

Looks like Obama's got some apologizing to do. From CNN:

(CNN) -- Two-thirds of Hillary Clinton's supporters in Kentucky say they would vote Republican or not vote at all rather than for Barack Obama, exit polls show.

Forty-one percent of Clinton supporters said they'd cast their vote for John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, and 23 percent said they would not vote at all.

Just 33 percent said they would back Obama in the general election, according to the polls.

Those numbers are even worse for Obama than in West Virginia one week ago, where 36 percent of Clinton voters said they would back him in the fall.

Re: Clinton Results Watch Party - Kentucky Special (2.00 / 3)

LORETTO, KY - Kentucky loves its horses and its college basketball - and judging by the number of distilleries we drove through on the way to Hillary Clinton's first campaign event on a four-day tour of the state, it loves its bourbon.

Senator Clinton toured the oldest such distillery in Loretto today, where Makers Mark Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is produced. She even got to dip a bottle into the company's trademark red wax to seal it tight - though she admitted she got a little sloppy.

"I think they're going to give me the bottle because it dripped some," she told the crowd gathered for a picnic outside. "So I think that I get to take that one home, which is not a hardship, you've got to admit."

"There's some benefits to running for president, every so often," she joked.

In the spirit of the place, she even worked some boozy references into her energy plan. "Think of what you could do if we got back to just putting alcohol into the gas tank," she said. "The model T Ford got better gas mileage than the SUV does today, and it ran on ethanol. You know what it ran on, it ran on moonshine."

As the crowd whooped and applauded, Clinton continued "it had more power and went further and had more kick than what we see in our cars today. It may be back to the future. I think Kentucky can play a leading role in that, getting us organized for those biofuel futures."

Link

New Hampster, I will take a shot of your Makers Mark and toast the Senator from NY.  Cheers!  :)

Sore winner he is! (2.00 / 3)

It's really starting to backfire. If he has such a huge lead, why must he do this? Transparent one!

Michael Steele on Fox: it's elitism (2.00 / 2)

and Wright.

Wright is Wrong (2.00 / 3)

I didn't believe in god before the primaries and I still don't.

Re: Clinton Results Watch Party - Kentucky Special (2.00 / 4)

Mr."Senator" Todd bloviating on CNN now, patting "Mrs. Clinton" on the back for being a good girl with a good tone now. There is a sexist bastard if you need an example of sexism in the campaign, Obo supporters.

by Scotch on Tue May 20, 2008 at 09:32:38 PM EST

35 points - 240K votes (2.00 / 5)

Whahooey!

Hillary`s greatest speech line! (2.00 / 5)

"I'm going to keep making our case until we have a nominee, whoever she may be."

Re: Hillary`s greatest speech line! (2.00 / 3)

I loved that part of her speech the best....

"I'm going to keep making our case until we have a nominee...whoever SHE may be."

Way to go Hill....you whipped his skinny ass again....that's our girl...

Obama declaring sort of victory now. (2.00 / 2)

Using his preacher voice. Just use your regular voice please Obama.

by catfish1 on Tue May 20, 2008 at 10:19:00 PM EST

Obama: I have a nice-looking wife, kids. Gross! (2.00 / 1)

Not to be hyper-militant about this sexism thing but that is so not appropriate, given...this entire primary.

They think they live in 1958.

Re: Obama: I have a nice-looking wife (2.00 / 0)

Tell me that isn't an actual quote.  Please tell me....

He informed us we're more inspired than we've (2.00 / 2)

been in a long time.

That speech must be transcribed and dissected.

Officially, he said "I sure have a nice-looking wife and kids" as she sat in her sleeveless dress and high-heels with the girls at her side looking up adoringly.

We're going back to 1955.

Sure they are a nice-looking family but that was...so not appropriate if you're trying to win over Hillary voters.

Um, I think the Obamas might have a problem with wanting to go back to 1955.

Re: He informed us we're more inspired than we've (none / 0)

Um, 1955 was before "Black is beautiful" and long before any Black family would ever have this kind of platform.  So I sincerely doubt anyone is mistaking this for 1955.

There's still a strong meme in our society that Black people are not appealing or attractive.  Look at the baby doll study a few years ago!  I'm thrilled that he takes opportunities to tell his daughters and the American people that this is EXACTLY what a beautiful family looks like.

I must say: (none / 0)

Obama has won a majority of the pledged delegates tonight.

It is likely that he will win a majority of pledged delegates even in 50% of florida and michigan delegates are seated.

Have fun with your cute little thread.

Re: Clinton Results Watch Party - Kentucky Special (none / 0)

"Tonight we toast the memory of Eight Belles a courageous horse who ran against the boys and ran hard.  They bumped her and tried to crowd her out but she kept going.  They ganged up on her and she kept going.  She never gave up, until they put her down."

This is a fitting metaphor for Clinton in some ways, but not in others!  NOBODY has the power to put her down!  Regardless of how this race ends, she'll still be going very strong.  We can all expect great things from her for a long time.
